A robust, slow-growing palm with a rough pale greyish-brown trunk. Resembles Washingtonia but generally have shorter, darker, shinier leaves. Leaf stalks are shorter than leaf blades, broad, pale green. Leaf-blades are brownish-green. Flowering branchlets are pendulous, bright creamy yellow. Fruits are ovoid to spherical.
Grows to 4m tall with a 2-3m spread and a 30cm stem diameter. Noted as reaching 12-15m tall with a spread of 5.5m and a stem diameter of 50cm in its native habitat. Slow growing at a rate of about 15-30cm p/a.
