A large, spreading, densely branched palm tree. The trunk grows from compact, robust and stiff when young to thick and straight when mature. Leaves are long, arching, pinnate and deep green ( greener than Phoenix dactylifera ).
The stalk is short with spines. Inflorescences are produced among the leaf bases. Bears creamy yellow flowers in spring. The poor quality fruit is reddish-yellow. The size is about 4-15m high and spreads around 4m. Its landscape uses as an ornamental or as a container-grown palm.
