A large shrub of medium growth rate with many upright branches. Leaves are small, narrow, willow-like shiny green. Flowers are insignificant, greenish-yellow in short terminal or axillary racemes. Fruits are membranous creamy to pinkish winged capsules.
The most popular variety is Dodonaea viscosa ‘ Purpurea’ from Newzealand. It has rich bronze purple leaves that turn green if planted in shades. Flowers are small, purple, in short clusters. Blooms in spring and summer. Suitable for hedging, screening or background planting.
