Pithecellobium Dulce is a fast-growing, tall tree with prickly thorns on its trunk, branches and stems, Bark is greyish brown, Turning lighter with age. Leaves are small, bipinnate with only two Pinnate and a pair of spines at the base of the petiole. Flowers are creamy slightly fragrant, grouped in globose heads. The fruit is a pod, twisted and coiled, edible. It grows to 15m tall with a 20m spread.
Noted as reaching 20m tall in its native habitat in a 40 year period. Fast-growing at a rate of 1-1.5m p/a for the first 10 years or so, with a corresponding increase in diameter of 12-18mm, slowing to 30-50cm p/a.
