A robust, fast-growing shrub with long, slender, upright branches. Leaves are long, leathery, dark green, paler beneath. Flowers are showy in a variety of shades of red, pink, peach or white, clustered at the end of the branches. Fruits are elongated rugged capsules. Valuable as an accent, attractor, specimen.
Used as a clipped hedge, light screen or border. Also effective along roads or as a background planting. All parts are poisonous, even smoke from burning leaves can cause irritation.
