A tall, graceful, fast-growing, palm without branches. The trunk is often leaning. The crown is dense, made of long feathery pinnate, yellow-green leaves fibrous at the base forming a sheath around the trunk. Inflorescences are axillary, flowers are in spikes. Male flowers form at the base and female flowers at the top.
Fruits are edible nuts covered with a large, yellow-brown, thick fibrous husk produced when the tree is about 10 years old. Grows 12-18m tall with a 3-6m spread and a 60cm basel diameter. Is slow to medium growing depending on location.
