Citharexylum spinosum is an evergreen, flowering, drought-deciduous large perennial usually multi-stemmed shrub to medium tree. Grows 6-8m tall wit a 4-6m spread. Noted as reaching up to 15m tall with a 10m spread and 1.2m trunk diameter in its native habitat. Medium to fast-growing rate.
Leaves are glossy, bright to medium green with a paler occasionally pubescent underside and may return a salmon-orange colour prior to dropping. Flowers are inconspicuous and fragrant, particularly at night. The plant is dioecious. Prefers organically enriched soil.
