A large, prickly and glabrous shrub. Leaves are bright green, feathery, bipinnate. Flowers are showy, bright orange, grouped in erect, terminal racemes and appearing, throughout the year if trimmed regularly, Fruits are pods, linear, oblong, flat and compressed, leathery dark brown when ripe.
The variety ‘flava’ has rich tallow flowers wrinkled at the upper part. Makes a good specimen and used as a barrier or screen. All parts of this plant are poisonous.
