A large shrub with erect and spreading branches. Leaves are handsome, feathery, bipinnate, bright green, with purgative properties. Flowers are showy, predominant yellow with long scarlet stamens and style, in conical, terminal racemes appearing in spring to summer.
The flower shoots are covered with short, red, glandular, sticky hair. Fruits are flat pods. It is also known as Poinciana gilliesii. As barrier or screen. Eating green seedpods has produced toxic effects in children.
