Bauhinia Purpurea is a semi-evergreen, flowering small to medium, perennial tree with a broad, bushy canopy and an erect and often contorted trunk. Typically multi-trunk with an upward, spreading branch habitat.
Leaves are very specific twin lobed, medium green. Flowers are flamboyant, very attractive, orchid shaped, arranged in racemes, light pink to purple in colour, sometimes white. It usually blooms while the leaves are dropping or in the event of a cold spell or drought after the leaves have dropped. The fruit is a pod. Grows 4-8m tall with an equal spread. The lifespan of approximately 50 years. Also known under the name of Bauhinia Variegata.
