Ziziphus jujuba is an evergreen to semi-evergreen flowering, spreading, small to a medium perennial tree with a naturally drooping, dense, oval canopy. Grows 7-10m tall with a 5-7m spread and a trunk diameter of up to 5cm.
Noted as reaching 12m tall with an 8m spread in its native habitat. Medium growth at a rate of 30-60cm p/a. The lifespan of 200 to 250 years. Leaves are glossy, bright green, turning bright yellow before abscising, with a glabrous underside. They are simple, alternate. ovate-elliptic, 3-5cm long by 2-3cm wide and have 3 conspicuous parallel green veins of which the midvein is most distinctive.
