An erect, bushy, leafless, shrub with green branching stem. Fast-growing. Leaves are green, very thin, linear, narrow, borne on young branches only. Flowers are sweet-scented, greenish, in bunches at intervals along the stems. Fruits are thick, globous, long and pod-shaped. Used as a windbreak, in roadsides and in afforestation and dune stabilization. Provides contrast and vertical emphasis.
