Dalbergio sissoo is a semi-evergreen, drought, deciduous, flowering, erect medium to a large perennial tree. It has large upper branches which support a graceful framework of vertical, smoothly, slender limbs and a spreading crown. The trunk is often crooked when grown as an individual specimen. But is straight trunked when grown in a grove or amongst dense planting. Grows 10-12 tall with a spread and a 9m spread and a 30cm trunk diameter.
Noted as reaching 25m tall and a 12m spread with a trunk of up to 2m diameter in its native habitat. Flowers are inconspicuous, fragrant, bisexual pale white to yellow-white, pea-shaped. The fruit is an indehiscent, wide, light brown. Fast-growing at a rate of 1-2m p/a with a 10-15mm stem diameter increase. Noted as self-perpetuating from its root suckers.
