Cymbopogon citrus is an evergreen, flowering, perennial grass that grows in dense clumps up to 1m tall with a spread of 1.2m. Medium to fast growth rate. Full sun through to partial shade. Prefers a humid location. Grows to an elevation of 1200m. Best growth between 20- 320C although accepts full summer heat becoming dormant somewhere above 35°C and below l0°C.
This is a tender plant that suffers leaf damage from frost below -3°C and is killed back to the roots by hard frosts. Flowers are white, Fruit is single-seeded grain. They are light brown and hairy.
