Echinocactus grusonii is an evergreen, flowering, perennial succulent, spherical when young and tends to lean towards the south or southwest so that the spines are able to afford more protection from the direct sun as it matures into a more flattened cylindrical shape. Observed in the AP at a maximum of 60cm tall by 80cm in diameter. Noted as reaching 1.5m tall by 1m in diameter in its native habitat after 100 years. Slow growing.
